Our Bakery

Our family bakery meticulously crafts our goods daily using traditional techniques and the finest ingredients. Committed to simplicity, quality, and flavor, we prioritize local sourcing, milling our whole grains fresh at the shop each night, and incorporating local butter, milk, eggs, flour, and organic ingredients whenever feasible.

To ensure a sufficient supply, we recommend preordering. Our production  commences at midnight and continues throughout the day, with the bakery remaining open until 1 p.m. or until all products are sold.  I make all products at the shop, by hand, and operate still as a one person baking shift at night. With that stated, ordering is highly recommended, though I do my best to have product on the shelf till 12:30/1:00 each day.

During our operating hours, please contact us via phone, and speaking to one of us to place an order. Kindly refrain from leaving messages or emails for orders.

Specials for the Week of February 9th
Reminder:
Saturday the 14th orders must be picked up by 11 a.m., we are closing at noon that day! Open the following week as normal, but closed Saturday the 21st.

Raspberry Tart: ​Vanilla shortbread crust with fresh made pastry cream and California raspberries on top.
Chocolate Raspberry Danish: Rich, velvety chocolate cream on top of a danish with a raspberry jam in the center.
​Chocolate Rye bread (Saturday Only):​ A delicious loaf featuring chocolate chunks, dark cocoa, honey and naturally leavened overnight for a full, robust, rich flavor and aroma. Excellent for French toast, toast, jam, butter, and the only love language I know, bread.



Bread (Everyday):
Our breads are made with high quality wheat, and all feature local, organic grains milled fresh at the bakery. *denotes 100% organic whole grain flour in products
  • Baguette - ​Traditional French baguette, long fermentation
  • Italian -Baguette dough shaped into a large batard
  • 5 grain & seed pan loaf* - Miche pan loaf with addition of sunflower & oats.
  • Country Sourdough - French style sourdough, 36 hours of ferment with organic local wheat & rye
  • Cheddar Sourdough - Our country sourdough with 20% of the weight being shredded with cheddar
  • Miche*  - Organic whole grain 2 kilogram loaf, sold by the whole, half or quarter. Naturally leavened and uses two kinds of fresh milled organic wheat and rye.
  • Pretzels - Traditional style German pretzel, dipped in lye for soft, recognizable 'pretzel' taste. 

​​Croissants (Viennoiserie):
Butter Croissant - ​Traditional French pastry using local butter and milk for delicate, flaky layers.
Chocolate Croissant - Traditional Pain au Chocolat with the addition of two classic French made chocolate batons inside.
​Cream Cheese Danish - Our delightful danish with a rich, sweet cream cheese topping featuring vanilla bean and cinnamon streusel.
​Raspberry Danish - Our delightful danish with a rich, sweet cream cheese topping with a dollop of homemade raspberry jam in the center.
Spinach & Feta - Buttery rich danish dough topped with a cream cheese, imported feta, garlic and spinach savory topping,
Pretzel Croissant - A traditional croissant with shredded white cheddar on the inside, dipped in traditional pretzel lye for a buttery, familiar flavor.
Almond Croissant ​- Our traditional croissant, baked and then filled with a bakery made almond pound cake filling, baked again, and then coated in simple syrup.
Cinnamon Roll - Croissant dough rolled up with a local butter, brown sugar and cinnamon filling. Topped with vanilla bean and honey icing.
Special Bread Bakes:
Wednesday: Sunflower Seed Sourdough - ​Country sourdough with the addition of lots of toasted sunflower seeds.
Thursday:  Mountain Bread* - Whole grain sourdough using bakery milled organic wheat and high extraction flour. It's my favorite loaf.

Friday: Sourdough Caraway Rye* - 'Deli Style' rye naturally leavened with an organic rye sour, and features caraway seeds.
Saturday: Cherry-Pecan Sourdough - Our Country sourdough with copious amounts of Michigan cherries and pecans added to the dough.
Assorted Sweets:
Eclair* - Filled with a bakery made vanilla bean pastry cream
Cinnamon Coffee Cake - ​Sour cream coffee cake slice with a cinnamon filling and cinnamon streusel top
Breakfast Cookie* - Whole grain, 1/4lb  cookie with oats, local wheat, Michigan cherries, sunflower seeds, dark chocolate and only sweetened with applesauce.
Carrot Cake * - Whole grain carrot cake with pecans, local flour and butter, and topped with a classic cream cheese frosting.
Cookies (available in packs of 6):
Chocolate Chip* - Our take on the classic, made with 100% organic local whole-grain flour, local butter & eggs, lots of dark chocolate chips, Italian sea salt, and Michigan sugar.  Chewy, thick, and delicious.
Ginger Molasses* ​- Whole grain chewy goodness, made with local butter and eggs, lots of molasses, and organic ginger and cinnamon.
Oatmeal Cherry* - Move over raisin, no one wants you. A chewy, whole grain cookie you know but with the addition of Michigan cherries.

Check out Early Riser, a book by me, Arlo, about the rhythms of baking, early mornings, and the art of craft. A book really written for those that shop with us and have since the start. This book is more of a memoir than a recipe book, though there are twelve or so bakery recipes in it. A small glimpse at the journey to this day. We have always offered Ferris Organic and/or Fair Trade Coffee complemented with local, Calder Dairy if desired:

Ferris French Roast - A robust dark roast with low acidity, & high roasted flavor notes.
Winter Avenue Blend (Light) - Fair-trade, flavor notes of cocoa, spice and I mine as well say it, everything nice.


Organic Teas from Frontier Organics:
Turmeric Ginger -
An herbal tea with organic ginger and turmeric, good for the joints, stomach and wellbeing.
Darjeeling - A black tea with a unique smell and flavor, almost citrus like and full bodied.
Gunpowder Green - High caffeine green tea, full flavor, robust and slightly smoky.
Matcha- ​Organic, Ceremonial grade Japanese Matcha, served hot. Not a latte, so feel free to add cream if needed.

As a small husband & wife operation making items from scratch with limited quantities, baked fresh each morning for that day only, we can sell out of popular items and recommend calling ahead if you are looking for something particular.

All baked goods have and will continued to be made using a renewable 
energy program with purposeful ingredients and intent. A better tomorrow, one loaf at a time.
